After many years as an applicator I have used many different types of liquid &
sheet applied waterproofing membranes, I was continually looking for a better
membrane. I became increasingly frustrated with the unsuitability of most membranes
on the market to New Zealand conditions & the difficulty of some of them to apply
combined with the lack of expertise in the industry when problems arose. It was decided it would be more practical to make our own membrane using N.Z materials as much as
possible & design the product for N.Z. conditions. Nuplex Industries was the obvious
choice to manufacture our Latex based waterproofing membrane as they have a lot of
experience with Latex resins & waterproofing membranes. The Nuplex membrane is sold
as Ultratuff FC. Nuplex Industries Ltd are a large reputable established company who
can easily cope with the volume of product we require as we expand & as they are
I.S.O 9001 audited we are assured of a very high quality product and the right
company to back it. (Please note; Ultratuff products are only available to purchase
through Ultratuff Coatings Ltd & are only sold to licensed applicators.) At Ultratuff
Coatings Ltd we understand the importance of having a waterproofing system that can
be easily applied, quick drying, maximum flexibility & good chemical resistance.
One of the biggest problems faced with applicators is drying & curing times. (The
dry time is the time the membrane takes to dry, that is it will look dry & feel
dry. The curing time is the time the membrane will need to dry before it is no longer
vulnerable to water or other chemicals that it will be resistant to & can normally
be put into service. Full cure is when the membrane gets to full strength)
Ultratuff Coatings is continually in communication with councils regarding product
approvals & changes etc & will endeavor to supply them with the necessary, appraisal
& testing information to meet their requirements.
Architect info, specifications & detailed drawings are available to be downloaded
in pdf format & we are more than happy to give free advice at any stage of the job.

More Latex Info: Latex is a synthetic product resembling the composition of the
natural rubber product found in various trees particularly the rubber tree, is
water based but is not an acrylic. Some acrylics are commonly referred to as being
Latex paint because they can also be flexible even though they are a completely
different product & don't contain any Latex. Our experience & testing has convinced
us that for waterproofing using the Latex resin makes a better product. Ultratuff
FC has rubber like flexibility, good resistance to bleach, salt solutions, diluted
acids, alkalis & moisture resistance.
More Curing Info: Curing times are one of the most important considerations to
applicators. The probable cause of a lot of membrane failures that have occurred
is because the membrane was not cured enough. Once dry the membranes are generally
shower proof until cured. If rain is continuous or water ponds then the membrane
can absorb moisture or if the membrane is tiled too soon chemicals from glues & screeds
can cause damage & prevent the membrane from fully curing. Worse still, can cause
the membrane to break down or re-emulsify (turn back into liquid.). The nature of our
Latex resin combined with high solids content & other special ingredients that are
added to our Ultratuff FC gives the membrane a very fast dry & cure time (generally
about one hour after the membrane is dry with a further recommended 24hr wait before
being tiled or walked on) as opposed to 7 to 28 days for other Liquid membranes.
The Ultratuff waterproofing system is made in N.Z. for waterproofers by waterproofers.
It is said that the waterproofing membrane is only as good as the applicator. That is
why we are very particular when choosing applicators to ensure they have the necessary
skills & experience needed along with ongoing onsite training & regular communication
by us to ensure the customer gets the best possible applicator & waterproofing system
available.
